design your own pasta bar

Deconstructing dinners are one of our favourite things to do.
Pasta

Design your own pasta bar can be served hot or cold. Great for lunch or dinner. Give the kids the tongs and let everyone at the table design their own meal for a fussy free delicious and colourful dinner.

Serves: 4

Prep: 10 mins    Cook: 25 mins

Ingredients

BASE:

  • 4 cups dry pasta

SOME COLOURS:

  • Tomato Passata or canned tomatoes
  • Pesto
  • Balsamic vinegar
  • Cherry tomato
  • Capsicum
  • Roast pumpkin
  • Corn kernels
  • Mushroom
  • Roast Zucchini
  • Cucumber
  • Baby spinach leaves

SOME PROTEIN:

  • 4 bean mix
  • Roast chicken
  • Natural Ham
  • Tinned tuna
  • Smoked salmon

SPRINKLE OF FUN:

  • Sun dried tomatoes
  • Olives
  • Pine nuts
  • Fresh/dried herbs (basil, oregano, thyme)
  • Ricotta cheese
  • Parmesan cheese

Directions

  1. Cook pasta (allow to cool if making pasta salad or serve warm)
  2. Warm up passata (optional)
  3. Prepare desired ingredients, wash/drain/cut up
  4. Design your own pasta by adding some pasta + some colour + some protein + some fun (aim for 1/4 plate to be pasta, 1/4 protein and 1/2 veg)
  5. Enjoy

 

Notes

You can add any veggies or extras you desire, even try blanching some asparagus.

Give the kids the tongs so they can pick and choose their favourite toppings.

Try using a wholemeal or bean based pasta for extra fibre.
