simple cinnamon scrolls



Note: cinnamon scrolls are usually made with a yeast dough which is delicious but takes lots of time and ingredients. This recipe is not trying to rival the original. This is a quick and simple recipe.



  • 1 cup self raising flour, plus a little extra
  • 1 and 1/3 cup whole meal self raising flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup natural or Greek yoghurt
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup caster sugar (or sweetener of your choice)




  1. Heat oven to 180 degrees C
  2. Line a baking tray with paper
  3. In a large bowl mix flours and baking powder
  4. Add yoghurt and mix with a metal spoon (once almost mixed I find it easier to use my hands)
  5. Sprinkle a handful of extra flour onto a clean surface
  6. Add dough and kneed for about a minute. Add more flour or yogurt if needed
  7. Roll out dough into a rectangle, approx 25cm x 40cm
  8. Mix together sugar and cinnamon
  9. Sprinkle on dough

  10. Gently roll dough into a log
  11. Using a butter knife, cut into 2cm thick pieces

  12. Place piece on tray and flatten slightly
  13. Cook for 20 mins





Try making it different flavours. Dice some apple, fruit, nuts, seeds or coconut. Just add it on top of the cinnamon (you can also forget the cinnamon and sugar and make them savoury: cheese and Vegemite or cheese and tomato paste)

Try brushing with oil or melted butter and sprinkle with seeds
